Development Associate

 
 

Opportunity 

The Acting Company seeks a full-time Development Associate to work in person at the office in mid-town Manhattan. The Development Associate reports to the Director of Development to support the implementation of our multifaceted fundraising program, interacting with the Company’s board members, institutional donors, patrons, and audiences. This position will join five full-time and one part-time staff. Office hours are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday to Friday. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for special events and performances.  

Qualifications 

  • The ideal candidate will be creative, collegial, and organized.

  • They will have between two and four years working in the nonprofit sector. A bachelor's degree or equivalent related experience is preferred.

  • They will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills including speaking on the phone.

  • Experience working with a CRM or donor database software (DonorPerfect, Raiser’s Edge, PledgeMaker, Spektrix, AudienceView, Tessitura, Patron Manager, etc.). 

Responsibilities 

Donor Systems, Tracking, and Acknowledgement: 

  • Process donations and enter accurate data for contributions in DonorPerfect 

  • Complete timely acknowledgement of individual and institutional donor gifts 

  • Maintain donor recordkeeping for reports, invitation mailings, and playbill credits 

 Board and Donor Relations: 

  • Distribute meeting reminders, and confirm logistics including attendance information, A/V needs, catering for local participants, and virtual access for regional board members 

  • Record committee and board meeting minutes 

  • Facilitate fulfilling ticket requests and answering performance-related questions for board members, individual donors, prospects, and their guests 

  • Engage individual donors in person and via phone, in addition to email and mailings 

 External Communications: 

  • Assist with the planning of a Communications Calendar for social media posts, e-newsletters, program feedback surveys, and Season in Review annual report publications  

  • Execute basic updates to our SquareSpace and OneCause websites, DonorPerfect and Google online forms, Buffer social media, and Constant Contact accounts 

  • Collect assets including photos, videos, quotes, and press clippings and make recommendations for using them to enhance the Company’s communications 

 Special Events: 

  • Support fundraising event committee members in their efforts to solicit tables, tickets, journal ads, and silent auction items 

  • Serve as a key coordinator for special events that host between 50 and 500 guests throughout the season 

  • Oversee ushers and front of house production assistants and provide box office support, as needed, to create a welcoming environment for patrons, subscribers, ticket buyers, and prospects 

 Institutional Funding: 

  • Research potential grant submission opportunities and create prospect sheets for review 

  • Collaborate with Production and Finance Departments to gather institutional impact statistics and information 

  • Prepare draft proposals and donor-required reports 

  • Attend meetings as appropriate for major funding opportunities

Salary

$50,000 - $55,000/year plus benefits (company sponsored health insurance, optional dental, vision and term life insurance, Section 125 FSA plan, pre-tax transit benefit, and a 403(B) retirement plan option with match).  Staff members receive paid time off, paid holidays, sick time, and personal days.  This is an in-person, non-exempt position. 

The position is open until filled; the right candidate will be asked to start as soon as they’re able.

The Acting Company is dedicated to the development of the actor and has been since our founding.  We maintain an open casting policy and will accept unsolicited headshots and resumes and consider each individually for current and future casting.
